We look at the music of Brahms once again, this time in the light of his great mentor Robert Schumann, who in 1853 wrote an article entitled "Neue Bahnen " (New Paths) to herald Johannes Brahms' as the future of music. It is this unique relationship that inspired much of the greatest chamber music ever composed, and we'll hear some of the very best pieces tonight: Brahms' piano quintet in F minor, often called 'the crown of Brahms' chamber music', and Schumann's gorgeous piano quartet in E Flat, composed in Schumann's 'chamber music year' of 1842.
