Glenfinnan Church
Glenfinnan Church, or St Mary and St Finnan's Catholic Church, is a fine example of Pugin architecture in a stunning historic location high above the shores of Loch Shiel.
The Church was completed in 1873 having been designed by Edward Welby Pugin in the ' late Early English' Style. The history of the church and parish is covered by an excellent article on the Glenfinnan Church website.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct and Station walk skirts around the southern edge of the church on the shores of Loch Shiel. There is parking at the front of the church on the A830 - please note, this is for concert goers only!
Glenuig Hall
Situated on Glenuig Bay, just a few yards from Glenuig Inn, this must be one of the West of Scotland’s best kept secret venues, which has been used for many years to host some of Scotland’s foremost musicians. Glenuig is a fantastic area for local walking, with views out to the western isles of Rum, Eigg and Muck. It’s a great place to spend a day taking it easy in between concerts!
The Boathouse @ Roshven House
“Set on its own sheltered private crescent shaped beach; Roshven Boathouse has location, location, location – with amazing views over Loch Ailort and the off-shore islands towards the low hills of Ardnish Peninsular and the islands of Eigg, Rum and Muck.” Need we say more? Set in the grounds of the phenomenal Roshven House, a beautiful 19th Century Baronial Mansion, this has been a festival favourite for intimate concerts for a few years now.
Shielbridge Hall
Acharacle is an attractive village built along the south-western shore of the seventeen-mile long Loch Shiel. The village is a centre for the whole area, with a wide range of amenities, and is a popular tourist destination. The Shielbridge Hall, named after the ancient bridge over the River Shiel nearby, serves Acharacle and the wider communities of Ardnamurchan, Moidart and Sunart, is the original Loch Shiel Festival venue and so holds a very special place in our hearts. Each year, we hold a concert with a party afterwards with delicious buffet food provided by Jill Gosney of Ardsealach Lodge.
Prince’s House Hotel
Oh, how we love the Prince’s House Hotel. It serves as the Festival HQ during festival time, not least because of the wonderful hosts, Kieron and Ina Kelly, and the well-stocked bar, not to mention the glorious food menu; but also the atmosphere in this place makes for a great pre-concert and post-concert chill-out. If you want to catch the artists unwinding after a long day at the festival, perhaps with a pint and a pool cue in hand, this is the place to do it!
